17 July is World Emoji Day.

Emoji are the ideograms or smileys used in electronic messages and Web pages. Originating in Japan on mobile devices, they are now commonly available on devices worldwide, ranging from mobile to desktop computers.
World Emoji Day was created by Emojipedia founder Jeremy Burge in 2014.
The purpose of World Emoji Day is to promote the use emojis and spread the enjoyment that they bring to all of those around us.
Anyone can join in the celebration using the hashtag #WorldEmojiDay.
Companies use World Emoji Day to launch emoji-related promotions, and host emoji events. In 2016 there was a World Emoji Run, and Pepsi hosted an Emoji Red Carpet in New York.
