Go on, try it: dry your tongue off and stick a biscuit on it. Because the taste receptors on your tongue require liquid to properly bind with the flavours, they won’t register the flavour of the biscuit when it’s completely dry. You could wash it down with water, or tea, and that might solve the liquid problem, but it will still taste better with a bit of spit in the mix. Enzymes in saliva help break down carbs and sugars, which generally improves the taste.
