On the road to Damascus

The longest continually inhabited city on earth is Damascus, which is more than 5,000 years old. During all this time, it’s kept roughly the same name, taking into account linguistic variations (the ancient ‘T-m-?-q’ has morphed into the modern Arabic ‘Dimashq’ and English ‘Damascus’, but the root is identical).
