Overhaul

An expression which refers to the action of the crew going aloft to adjust and replace ropes or lines to avoid chaffing while sailing. Today the word means to maintain things in a working condition or to improve upon the current condition, for example to overhaul or make repairs on a car. A nautical term that has now become part of everyday language
