Sailing too close to the wind

Originally an expression referring to the risk in sailing when a vessel would get too close into the wind thereby stalling the vessels forward movement. Today the expression is used to mean one is taking risks by defying rules or pushing the limits. A nautical term that has now become part of everyday language
