The United Kingdom has for the first time, included in its set of national accounts the estimated contribution to GDP that prostitution and the sale of home-grown marijuana would have on this key statistic. Estimates put the number at approximately £12.27-billion, a sum bigger than value of wine and beer sales, although the estimates exclude the economic activity of male sex workers, who make up 42% of the oldest profession in the UK.
